In order to solve the high risk problems of well control and reservoir pollution during routine pump inspection, and the absence of workover machine during pump inspection in some marginal oil fields, a set of steel wire electric pump system was developed in Bohai Oilfield. The electric downhole pump unit of this system is pulled out from the hole by the ground wire winch when workover operation is carried out for the system, then the new pump unit is delivered into the hole through the wire. The practical application of wireline running and pulling pumps system of 5 wells in Bohai Oilfield shows that the procedure of pump inspection operation is simple, and the system is suitable for multiple well conditions. Besides, some disadvantages of conventional workover such as large quantity of engineering, more workers, and materials and long cycle of workover are overcomed by the wireline running and pulling pumps system. Therefor, the system saves the time and cost of workover operation, protects the reservoir and improves the comprehensive production efficiency of the well. Significantly, comprehensive consideration of electric pump displacement and hanging vertical depth should be taken when a new pump system is applied.
