Formation drillability is one of the important parameters during the process of drilling design and operation. In order to get exactly the formation drillability is of very great significance for correct selection of drilling tools, less occurrence of complex down-hole situations, high quality and safe drilling operation. However, because the conglomerate formation has serious anisotropy, it is difficult to determine accurately its drillability. In this paper, through the laboratory experiment, the relationship among the drillability of conglomerate formation, the median size of gravel and the volume fraction of gravel is studied and an empirical expression is derived.
