According to the type of silicate additives , silicate-based
drilling fluids can be differentiated inorganic and organic silicate-
based drilling fluids. Silicate-based drilling fluids have serious
problem related to clay , although , compared with common
muds , the drilling fluids have many advantages , such as high
inhibition , good environmental protection property , and low cost.
The rheology of inorganic silicate-based drilling fluids is sensitive
to clay content , so the silicates must be used in drilling fluid of
low clay content. While in organic silicate-based drilling fluids ,
the measured result of clay content is much larger than the actual
value. Based on the lab tests , the problem of clay content is
analyzed. The results show that the organosilicon drilling additives
can adsorb some methane blue. Based on the field application ,a
modified coefficient of clay content of organic silicate2based
drilling fluids is suggested.
