This paper discusses the geometric conditions and some related problems to the air gun signature test at sea, expounds the linear propagating range and the source directivity caused by surface effect for a single gun and delibrates the allowable distance and the offset angle from the hydrophone to the air gun array. It has been pointed out that the testing instrument should be broadband frequency response and an example from the testing is given.
