In this paper, three factors affecting the wave separation on paper records of 2-D data acquisition with GEOCO R-IV were studied in detail. The three factors are: near surface compres sional wave velocity Vp; the layout X; and the relation between △x and T (recording length). Formulas for selecting the proper layout were derived:Large offsets: 5/6·T·VpGroup interval:single-shot spread two-way-shot(symmetry-shot.) non-svmmetry-shotchannel numbers of the long side of the spread-1The roll-in/roll-out folded layouts of full-stack and super-stack were introduced in this paper. The systems are specified for the over 1000 channel system such as the GEOCOR-IV etc. Also, test results obtained from Jiangsu and Xinjiang Provinces were presented.
