The assumption of refraction static correction indicates that it cannot be applied in the area with complex
surface structures. On the contrary, constrained tomographic static correction is suitable for the lateral and
vertical variation of the velocity of weathering layer, as well as the poor layering of near surface. After
briefly analyzing the inadaptability of refraction static correction in the area with complex near-surface
structures, the basic principles and steps of constrained tomography static correction was described. Then
the constrained tomography static correction was applied in the western area with complex near-surface
structures. In addition, the difference of near-surface velocity modeling and static correction by tomography
inversion with and without constrained conditions, and the constrained tomography static correction shows
obvious advantage in complex near-surface area.
