When the seismic wave enters underground, reflection and scattering wave coexist in the formations. It is not
enough to describe the spatial structure by a single theory of either reflection or scattering theory.Complex shallow
media has strong heterogeneity, which is the main distribution area of scattering source.Utilizing seismic
scattering wave to study the characteristics of the wavefield is more reliable.Seismic scattering profile technique
(SSP) in engineering investigation is based on scattering theory, which utilizes the hybrid model of reflection and
scattering to resolve the structure of underground space.SSP can increase discrete shallow small scale geological
prospecting information and improve the S/N & resolution of seismic data. The application of SSP method in tunnel
sites survey revealed that the probing depth and S/N is superior to the conventional seismic reflection data.Drilling
results confirmed the reliability of SSP result. The application results provide a reference for fine geologic survey at
complex near-surface area with low S/N in hydrocarbon seismic exploration.
